JG report

So I won again... I can't say I'm surprised after the intense preparation I did. ZP was caught for hiding blanks and was rightly disqualified.

Anyway, stats and game reports:

Record: 6-1 +401
Ave. score:427-369
Ave. moves:12.57-12.43
Ave. score per move:33.97-29.68
Ave. tiles played:50-47.4
Ave. score/tile: 8.54-7.78

Game 2 vs Guan Hui- He starts with PEEVED(30). I have EGLNTVY and play LEVY(18). I get EXPIATED(107) and ELICITED(63) to his MOJO(33), TRAYING*(24) and QUOIF(45). I maintain the scoring with HAJI(42) and KUZU(31) while he strikes with DREADErS(80), trailing by a mere 28. Then I slap down TINNiEST(70) and he doesn't block my out-bingo of ALMOSTU + I (99). I end up winning 536-362.

Game 3 vs Andy- Andy begins with THRANG, getting a challenge from me. I play ELOiNED(68) and AXE(56) while he has LITOTES(74). After 6 turns, I have a slim 28 pt lead. With 7 in the bag, he bingos but empties the bag and allows me to out with NEWSIER(75), catching him with the Q, winning by 10. A very close shave.

Game 4 vs Michael- I start with AEEEGGL, and play EAGLE(14). His racks are scarcely better, and a slow blockish game results. After 9 turns, the scores are 179-215. But I get down SAURIES(70) while he struggles with small scores.
He misses ABELNS? +T (T has to be in 6th ) to go out. I win 343-299.

Game 5 vs Ben- I have AEIISTT to begin-so close to a bingo. He has GOIER(12) and GOY(22) to my THO(21) and KAF(21) after which I get rEMISED(79) to take the lead. I immediately draw the next blank but don't use it until turn 9- ADDINO? + L goes down for 80. Meanwhile my comfort of sitting on a 170 pt lead is being quickly erased by his back to back bingos of BONESET(66) and ANSWERER(86). I leave no chances and have to block the R, leaving 1 in the bag. I am careful not to give him an outplay and finish first, winning by 45.

Game 6 vs LiWei. He opens with DAUBY(30). I have EFFPRNS and play the obvious PUFF(20), drawing LXT. He gets UREAsES(71) while I score well with SWORN(33), QATS(50, HAW(30). Later he gets COpITAS(85) to lead by 35 on a closed board. I have AAIIRSV and can't do much. Lose by 73.

Game 7 vs Tony: I start with YEX(26), and he replies with KOAN(40). I get down the first bingo, OUTPLoD(72), followed by REFiLLS(72) and maintain the lead to the end. He has no reply.

Game 8 vs Michael. I have to lose by less than 45 to win the tourney. But I get 4 easy bingos- ARSINES(85), GUNTERS(77), FEEBLEST(78) and a late pAINTIER(66) to his OVERaTE(71) and KHAT(48) to win easily 514-376.

I was indeed pleased to get my title, and also now the highest rated. As such, I guess I will be skipping the Oct mini. It's time to take a short break.

Sin Ming report

Finished 3rd after 6 tiring games today after a rough start...Ball took the easy route to the top by avoiding several top players, and his drawing was noticeably above average again. Anyway, we'll see how he fares in the upcoming mini, he still has yet to play in div 1 in a JG mini. It's frigging about time.

I won my last 3 games to narrowly clinch my 2nd GM star......now the 1900 plussers are virtually a plateau above the rest, I'm not sure whether that's really a good thing.
Also I managed to play a number of recently mugged words..at least it paid off to some extent.

Record:4-2, +443
Finish:3rd out of 14
Ave. score:449-375
Bingos: 11 - 9 (1.83-1.5)

Reached the venue just after 9 with Tony and was greeted with the familiar sight of players milling around. Was pleasantly surprised to discover that LiWei had backed out due to other commitments-good, I don't mind 1 less competitor.

Game 1 vs Karthik
A slow game for both players- after 6 turns, the score is 137-138. After 10, 256-251. He has TRAInERS and SALTIER.. Miss a few bingos at the end and lose by 2.

Game 2 vs Tony.

I lost the first game narrowly, and am not pleased to meet Tony, who has also lost the first game. He opens with REND(10), I play YAY(29). Then SLOW(30) from him and I try OUTPRUNE*-dang those OUT-words-if OUTPREEN is good, why not! I get down JUNTA(40) and MUDDIER(30) and he loses a turn with METISES* Then I play 2 straight naturals- ABINORR to E (89) and AAEILLT to P (74), bringing me to a 313-189 lead. He gets DEWiEST(88) late but still loses 392-444.

Game 3 vs Victor
I start of strongly with TALAQ(48), only to see him come back with DIPOLES(92). I reply with AEELMNTV(92+5). I get GAPO(34) and ARnATTO(65+5) to his SANDiER(76) and STAIRED(84). Mediocre endgame tiles see me lose by 16.

Game 4 vs Kang Ng

I haven't played her in some time, so I knew it would be interesting. So she starts with ROAStED(70), but I have AAGLLTU and immediately see the bingo. She challenges but it's good. I have QUOLL(48), ZOS(48) and a desperate phony SCUB*. Her RESHiNE(88) is not enough to bridge the widening gap. I win comfortably by 72.

We break for a quick lunch of fried noodles and sandwiches. I have to win my remaining 2 games to stay in the running.

Game 5 vs Andy
He opens with JADE(24). I reply with BESTIrS(79) missing yet another 4 timer. A series of high scores - YEA(42), MINED(38), PHAT(37), VAUNTIE(84) and TERF(33) to his StOVAINE(70) and WANE(37) put me well ahead. At the end my tracking comes in handy-he has AEHILOR and 1 obvious spot which I block. However, he didn't see the bingo but it's better to play safe . Win by 86.

Game 6 vs Jessie
Anything less than a win will see me dropping out of nineteen hundred. So here it goes..I have GIIRSTU to start, play GUT-there are few options.. She replies with MIG(14). I shoot back with CEIIMRS(79). Later I have some nice scores, LITHS(44), ZAP(45), WOX(47) and OtArINE(69). She has no reply. I bingo out with CENTERED(66) and catch her with Q.

W 522-271

At 3.15 pm, the tourney is finally over and I collect my prize. I am very relieved later to see that my rating was maintained. I look on as Tony and Andy play 2 matches, evenly split. I end up playing with Jessie and have 4 bingos- LOUrIER(68), LANTERNS(77), WRITABLE(72) and out with JIGGLIEr(75) winning 471-380.

I am very bored. The last few days have been spent mugging lists, surfing numerous US blogs and going out occasionally. And now the TV is spoilt.
